I thought this might happen, but I though it would happen only after someone got mad at something that they read.

I knew this was a risky experiment, but I didn't expect the blog to be raped this fast.

The new version will have some modifications but keep the same intent.

By the way, any post with that ad for McAfee at the bottom is a post by the clever Mr. Magic Hack He owns the blog.

The public access magic blog is off to a great and wacky start already.

I knew my idea was sound, look how many posts we've got just in the first
couple days. This blog is destined to be the hottest magic blog around.

It may be confusing with some of the game playing that's going on, but
heck... that's what we started this thing for.

Problem not Solved!

That last post was fraudulent. I believe that he (Magic Hacker?) is pretending to be the David (the original creator of blog). I guess this blog is dead. I'll move on to the next version with what I've learned from this one.

It seems a mistake was made when this blog was initially published.

The intent was to create a no holds barred, anything goes community where
all can participate. The problem was that to do that we only need to share
the public email address to post to:

pamagicblog.slydini@blogger.com

Instead, some dummy shared the password and the blog almost got deleted by
unscrupulous web surfers. Luckily this was brought to my attention early
and I was able to close my back door so to speak.

If you had trouble figuring out what that cryptic post means, some asshole chaned the password. The so called Masked Hacker, as he calls himself, wants to take over the blog. You were given the password here, you didnt have to hack a thing. Unless being given a password is "hacking" in you book. What you did amount to vandalism. I know that's a big word for you, so I'll explain:willful or malicious destruction or defacement of public or private property.

You don't have a thing?

You need to get a thing. I was in the magic store talking with a fellow magician whose "thing" is donuts. I don't think that he uses donuts for every trick, mind you, but he is associated with doughnuts, and this is apparently as a recurring theme in his performances.

Having a thing associated with you is very powerful. Jeff McBride has the Masks. David Williamson has Rocky (or did). Don Alan's thing was a lump of coal and later a huge nut. The list goes on.

I need a thing. My thing used to be cigarettes, back in the 80's and 90's smoking didn't carry the stigma that it does now. I had a metal lined thumb-tip for the vanish, a dummy lit cigarette on a reel pinned inside my jacket, a lit cigarette dropper at my side, and other stuff. For example, I'd throw out my cigarette, and reach in my pocket to get a deck of cards, in the card box was my lit cigarette. Smoking was a recurring theme but this ended when I finally got smart and quit smoking like everyone else. Lost my thing.

Maybe I'll be the Disco Magician. Yes disco is back. Here's a couple of disco guys that I might try to emulate:

By the way did you know that there is a special backpack for mixing and drinking Bacardi and Cola while you are on the go? Not unlike the "Beer Hat". That might be a thing, magician in a beer hat?

Maybe my thing will be that the magic will be so offensive that the person will never want to see another magician. Oh wait, that's my thing!

Something is fishy Mr. Gibson. I can't prove it but I suspect that You picked a fight with Steve Pelligrino over the LL publishing thing, in order to start your new blog. You knew how he would react, judging from the big tiff he had with Magic Whack over the same thing. If you had just announced the start up, like you did with your lame Wiki site Magic Routines, you would have never gotten any hits. Steve played into this so well I wonder whether he was in on it too, except for the fact that he wouldnt be insulting you.

I don't see any downside for you. I suspect you wanted to get your name out there too and you let Steve do it for you. The fact that it was "revealing a big secret" gave your name the importance that I would not otherwise have since your nobody in the magic world. If you can't get any positive publicity, get negative publicity. Publicity is publicity right?

Pro VS. Amateur: Round I

The initial shot has been fired in the war of pro VS. Amateur, consider this:

I have a friend that creates oil paintings for a living. Kevin can "crank out" an original oil painting in about a half an hour. His subjects are varied but dictated by whatever the market will bear; for example, he paints beach scenes and other popular things and then sells them to home builders and offices. You can make a good living doing this as Kevin will attest.

My brother is a chef, he also paints in oil. Larry's work is remarkable however infrequent, but he has never sold a single painting, nor does he want to.

Larry, Kevin and I all know each other. Kevin would never dream of disparaging Larry's work, and in fact, seems to hold his talent in high esteem. No one devalues Larry's work because he doesn't make a living at it. Nor does the fact that he's never sold a painting, make him less of an artist than Kevin.

Professional Vs. Amateur, in this case is completely irrelevant, and I would submit, that it's equally as irrelevant in magic.

So why is there a controversy?

Is it because there's this tendency to boil everything down into two choices? Winner/loser, good/bad, back/white, it's the way of western Judeo-Christian thought (god/devil). We do it because it's easy to see the world in this way, that way we don't go through the painful thought process that comes with acceptance of ambiguity.

Unfortunately, in the real world, that anything is black or white is the exception and not the rule, and a person's status in magic is good case of this. For example there are professionals that are run the gamut from poor to excellent performers. Likewise there are amateurs that are excellent performers as well as amateurs that are lousy (sadly, large numbers).

Maybe we should drop the pro vs. Amateur distinction and just focus on quality!

Coin in glass

First time posting to the public blog. I am testing this from my email account.

I,Magicians post "A hit and a miss" shows a guy doing a good coin in glass. I've always liked "coin in glass" routines, but I can't see spending money with "Ellusion" when there are some good routines in print. Hell, It could be in Tarbell?
Can someone point me to a coin in glass routine in print?
